A Nutella so Dreddful Weekend

Feb 8th

…this is officially the most terrible blog post title I could come up with. I regret nothing.

So Boston is officially shut down – as of 3:30 public transit had stopped, and cars had to be off the road by 4 lest drivers face $500 fines and/or jail time. I had planned to bus down for the Philadelphia Tattoo Convention to catch up with a number of people, but the blizzard says that is not the case. Instead I am spending the weekend at home holed up with Chris, cats, and plenty of snacks. I’ve also got a copy of Dredd (in full glorious HD 3D) that my amazing friend Brian bought for me. I should have been hugging him during my trip this weekend, but immersing myself in the film will have to do. Thanks Brian!

Dredd and a Cocktail

In addition to the snacks and movie and cats (wait wait, there’s more!) I’ve also got a pretty full liquor cabinet that enables me to do a bit of mixing this weekend. Frangelico is one of my recent acquisitions, as it’s great in a ton of hot drinks. Coffee, milk, hot chocolate – they all are perked up by a little bit of hazelnutty sweetness. I wanted something cold to start off with though, so I made up my own cocktail – the Nutella. I used:

  • 3 parts Frangelico
  • 2 parts Mozart Chocolate Liqueur (any chocolate liqueur will do)
  • 1 egg white
  • Ice

Shake, pour, drink. Stupidly easy, and it’s basically like drinking a cold glass of Nutella. The egg white thickens to drink up and makes it creamy, much like in a fizz. If you’re egg white opposed you can also just add in a bit of milk or your preferred dairy substitute, but it’s not quite the same. And best of all, you can make it even if the power goes out. I am prepared.

So that’s what I am doing this weekend. There may also be snow angels / men / and a cat igloo, but I plan on minimal effort this weekend. Good luck if you’re in the way of the snowpocalypse, and stay toasty.
